As I was noodling on blog topics for this week, I got to thinking what types of blog posts I like to read the most and it dawned on me that I am a sucker for a good “Favorite Things” list. I mean, who doesn’t love a reason to browse some new products, check out new shows, etc that come highly recommended and tested? So, with that said, welcome to the first installment of the Fitness Frivolity Favorite Things blog series, where I will share my current obsessions one month at a time!
September Favorites:
This is actually not really a September favorite per say and rather a year round favotire, but I though it deserved a bit of attention because I am not sure I’ve ever mentioned it before. If you’ve not already downloaded the Vizer app, stop reading and do it now! This app is incredible and basically takes all the hard work we do in the gym every day and takes it to the next level. How it works is that when you reach one of Vizer’s daily activity goals (walking 10,000 steps, exercising for 30 mins, or taking a class at a Vizer partner studio) and tap ‘Donate,’ corporate sponsors will donate a meal through a partner food bank on your behalf! If there’s one thing you do with this blog post, please download the Vizer app and start making your workouts count in your community!
I was first introduced to this magic product by my husband’s dad, who came to visit for a long weekend earlier this month and as he handed me the jar, he told me he owns 50 of them just to ensure he never runs out. Now, his dad lives in Santa Cruz where everything is a bit crunchy (no offense to anyone living there, it’s an incredibly beautiful place) and people tend to be a bit earthier than I am used to, so I had my doubts about this body butter, but let me tell you I AM SOLD! This stuff is amazing! It’s soooo smooth, buttery and absorbs into your skin perfectly, leaving it feeling hydrated and silky soft to the touch. It’s also made with all-natural ingredients, so when Lexi decides to lick it all off my legs, I don’t have to worry too much about her wellbeing. I use it all over my body after I shower and I can honestly say my skin has never felt better.

When it comes to creamers, I’ve pretty much tried them all, from Nutpods to Silk Oat Creamer, Super Creamer, Coffemate and more and it wasn’t until I found Fairlife Creamers that all my coffee dreams came true. I know that sounds super cheesy, but it’s 100% true! My stomach doesn’t do super well with artificial sweeteners and I definitely like my coffee sweet, so finding something that checks both the sweetness and the no artificial junk box is hard to come by. While I love Nutpods, I tend to think their flavor is pretty weak and I need a lot to be able to taste it in my morning cup of Joe, but with Fairlife Creamer, 2 tablespoons does the trick and with just 5 ingredients, my tummy is as happy as I am.

As much as I love and adore One Bars, my stomach tends to disagree with me due to the artificial sweeteners in them and as hard as it was to cut them out of my weekly routine, it was a necessary change for the sake of preserving my marriage 😉 Anyway, with that said, you can only imagine how pumped I was to finally take the plunge and try the G2G bars that I’ve seen people rave about. Let me tell you, the hype is real, because these babies are soooo good! I keep them in the fridge, although they can be kept in the pantry as well, and while they are very dense, the flavor and texture of these bars is heavenly. If you like Perfect Bars, you will love these and with slightly more protein and a bit less carbs and fat, these are literally the perfect breakfast on the go! I’ve tried the peanut butter chocolate chip and almond coconut flavors so far and absolutely love them and can’t wait to eat my way through the rest of my variety pack. I will definitely keep you posted on my final favorite flavors!

I have been a fan of La Croix for years, but when I stumbled upon AHA water at Target a couple weeks ago I had to admit that La Croix was a thing of the past for me. AHA’s flavors are definitely unique, but I am totally here for it. I love the apple ginger and lime watermelon, but the blueberry pomegranate is quite tasty as well. Whereas the La Croix flavors are more muted (except for Limoncello, which is divine), AHA’s flavors are definitely bolder and have you feeling like your sipping a delicious soda with none of the calories, carbs or sugar.

This is a company out of Austin, Texas and they make the best apple watch bands if you ask me. I have both a light and a natural leopard print (are you even surprised?) and they make wearing your watch so super comfortable and best of all, easy to put on and take off. I wear a size small and the band is tight enough to detect workouts, while also being thin enough to not make your wrist too bulky. I usually clean my band in the shower with some soap and water, but you can also throw it in the wash for an easy refresh. The best part about this company is that with every band sold, Braxley plants one tree (over 50,000 so far), so by supporting this growing company, you are also doing your part to grow the environment.

I am a pretty sweaty person when I workout and was quite content with my Dove antiperspirant for years, but once everyone started saying that perhaps our deos were causing cancer, I jumped on the wagon and began searching for a natural substitute that still worked well. I tried Primally Pure, Kopari, Schmidt’s, Tom’s and Necessaire and I have to say, none of them worked very well for me. I would always find myself super self-conscious about my pits and while some of them worked smell wise they almost seemed to cause me to sweat more than usual for some reason. Anyway, I’m currently using the Native Cucumber Mint scent and I have to say I am pretty happy with it. I don’t think I smell (friends, correct me if I’m wrong) and it keeps me mostly dry during the day, so that’s a win in my book.
Alone TV Show
It’s always quite a battle for my husband and I to find a show we truly both enjoy watching, so when we heard about a reality TV show for survivalists, our hopes were low to say the least. We are not big reality TV fans and if there’s one thing I hate more than anything, it’s people talking over each other, but nonetheless, we gave it a go and you guys, WE ARE HOOKED! What we love about this show is that it truly seems as close to reality as you can get, with each contestant having to carry their own camera equipment, do their own filming and best of all, living in isolation so there’s no one to yell at. We started with season 6, then moved to season 1 and are now watching season 5, mostly because I didn’t want to watch the same show location two seasons in a row. If you’re looking for a show to watch with your significant other, this would be my suggestion!

I have to admit, when I saw the price tag on these headphones a couple years ago, I quickly did a U-turn and plugged my apple headphones into my iphone and called it good. As my headphone wires kept getting tangled and caught on my kitchen drawers, I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchased Apple Air Pods, completely forgetting about the Jaybirds at the time. Well fast forward to present day, when my Air Pods only work 50% of the time and the Genius bar man tells me there’s water damage (hello sweaty workouts?!), that I find myself once again in the market for wireless headphones. This time around though, I am so pumped I finally listened to Madeline, who always raves about the Jaybirds, and am happy to report that with the use of some reverse psychology, my husband recently bought himself and me a pair of these babies. I know they still cost quite a pretty penny, but if you are going to spend the money on quality wireless headphones, I truly think these are some of the best on the market. The Vista model that we got and is linked here, is pretty much earthproof, meaning it’s fully waterproof, crushproof, dropproof, and sweatproof, and with up to 6 hours of audio on a full charge, plus 10 more in the charging case, you really can’t go wrong with these. I’ve been testing these puppies the last 2 weeks, putting them through all kinds of jumping, hiit, burpee, running and more workouts and they stay put perfectly!
Things I’m Currently Testing for Future Review:
I already have a decent set of natural lashes, but when they had a major sale a couple weeks ago I couldn’t help but get a tube and am pumped to see what my results are after using this product for a month.
2. Whoop
I’ve seen tons of professional athletes use this product, so I decided to give it a go and am pumped to see what my experience is a couple months down the road. Basically, this is a wrist sensor that you wear 24/7 like a watch that measures everything about your body and gives you real time feedback so you can optimize your training schedule. It tracks your heartrate, recovery, strain, sleep, respiratory rate, resting heart rate, etc, assesses the data and reports back with suggestions on what you an improve to feel your best. It’s kind of hard to explain, but I will definitely do a full review once I’ve used it for a while as it takes at least a month for it to really learn your body and give you accurate useable feedback, so stay tuned!
